Criminal prosecution awaits in connection with death of Dáil usher in crash in Dublin
An individual is facing a criminal prosecution over the death of a Dáil usher cycling home from work in Dublin two years ago, an inquest has heard.
Derek Doyle (58), a married father of one from Clonsilla, Dublin, was killed in a crash involving a lorry and his bicycle in Castleknock on December 19th 2024.
The fatal incident occurred at the junction of College Road and Castleknock Village at approximately 4.30pm.
The opening of the inquest into Doyle’s death at Dublin District Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, July 28th, heard a postmortem showed the deceased had died as a result of cranial cerebral trauma.
Doyle’s brother-in-law, David Dillon, gave evidence of formally identifying the deceased’s body to gardaí at the mortuary in Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown on December 23rd 2024.
The coroner, Cróna Gallagher, informed the hearing that DNA analysis had also been used to confirm Doyle’s identity due to the nature of the injuries he sustained in the collision.
