Man jailed after striking victim 12 times with champagne bottle
A man who used a champagne bottle to strike a man 12 times on the head and face has been jailed.
Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard that at the time of the incident, Daniel Hutchinson (33) was on a three-day binge following the death of his 10-year-old child.
Hutchinson, with an address at Talbot Street, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty to one count of assault causing harm on North Earl Street on August 3rd of last year.
Judge Jonathan Dunphy described it as “a very serious incident” and sentenced Hutchinson to six and a half years' imprisonment with the final 12 months suspended. He backdated the sentence to August 5, 2025 for time spent in custody.
Garda Colm Maguire told Breffni Gordon BL, prosecuting, that a man who had been walking down North Earl St on the morning in question was attacked and woke up several days later in Beaumont Hospital surrounded by his family.
